Thirteen Years Growing Together: Atreyu Moniaga Project at ArtJog 2026
In 2013, in a district in North Jakarta known more as an industrial area than an art center, a young artist named Atreyu Moniaga gathered several students he was mentoring. They shared a dream to make a living from art.
That dream did not become reality smoothly or easily. Atreyu and his group built Atreyu Moniaga Project (AMP) as an art incubation, a space where young artists not only learned technical skills but also experienced firsthand what it meant to make an exhibition, collaborate, manage budgets, receive criticism, and meet deadlines. The project began from a practical need: a group of young people seeking support in navigating a complex art ecosystem.
Thirteen years later, AMP has run thirteen incubation programs and produced 57 alumni. Many of them remain active as artists, photographers, and creative industry workers in Indonesia. More notably, AMP evolved from a campus-based group into a multidisciplinary community that connects artists and mentors from different generations.
The exhibition Liminal/Periphery at ArtJog 2026 is the first time AMP presents itself as a cross-generational collective to a wider public audience. The exhibition features over seven hundred works and archives that document the journey of thirteen years of growth.
The exhibition is structured in two parts. The first is a retrospective overview that presents AMP's artistic process as a collective. The second features twelve artists with personal works that highlight ambition, doubt, friendship, and change. Among them are Atreyu Moniaga, Wilhemus Willy, WD.Willy, Liffi Wongso, Rapha Lisa, Clasutta, Tusita Mangalani, Zita Nuella, Ada Khansa, Ansn Martin, Red Maerra, and Oddyendry.
Atreyu himself speaks about what has kept AMP alive until now. "AMP has been able to endure this long because of the support of people who believe in our abilities and hard work. All of this is collective effort," he said. He then adds a hope that is simple yet captures the spirit behind it all: "I hope this exhibition can inspire audiences to discover and nurture the hope that grows from their own surroundings."
Liminal/Periphery is open to the public from June 19 to August 30, 2026 at Jogja National Museum, Yogyakarta.
