Preserving Traces of Emotion Through “Preserved Feelings”, Joey Wong's Solo Exhibition

The exhibition marks the latest solo presentation by Kuala Lumpur-based artist Joey Wong (d'peculiar). Curated by Jason Yang, Preserved Feelings will run from August 8 to September 7, 2026, with an opening reception taking place on August 8 from 5-8 pm local time.

Born in Penang, Malaysia, in 1995, Joey Wong graduated from the Equator Academy of Art. Their practice has received notable recognition over the years, including the 2025 MR DIY Spotlight Award in the Public Category and the 2019 UOB Painting of the Year Silver Award in the Emerging Artist Category. In 2024, Wong held their first solo exhibition, The Tender Labyrinth; Echoes of a Flutter, at Suma Orientalis.

Working under the name d'peculiar, Wong explores surrealism through a distinctive visual language. Their works are characterized by fragmented human figures and isolated body parts set in unusual settings that evoke the familiarity of everyday domestic life.

The artist's practice investigates the seemingly opposing yet interconnected relationship between softness and discomfort, presence and absence, inviting viewers to encounter works that feel both intimate and unsettling.

Preserved Feelings reflects on the ways emotions and memories are stored, compressed, and transformed over time. By placing familiar subjects within distorted or unnatural contexts, Joey Wong explores how emotions continue to linger long after the moments that gave rise to them have faded away.
